The main thing that strikes you is how well the material on offer here has aged. "Always Protected" is something more groovy and, even more importantly, lighthearted and fun. Erik Iker fully developed these intuitions on his two tracks at the height of the electroclash craze, yet those sexily sanguine songs are still as immediate and enduring with its panache and overall glam. "Sometimes" commanding display of an innate sense of melody and attention to sonic...

"Sun Above Your Eyes" is a new EP from Orelse continues in that vein, where spare 4/4 frameworks are established early on and the main focus of each track is essentially about how the resulting gaps are filled. Most often it's with a roughshod collection of pinging toms, sharpened claps and swirling pads, though plenty of found sounds also lurk within. The version of Stanisha is aptly named for its modern lullaby overtones. If you have young kids, the soft edged...

Elements Of Darkness," a collaboration between Dj Duma & Nico Kala G, has something going for it atop crisp, snapping percussion, its sweeping strings and brightly-hued dabs of synth are intensely emotional. Filled with off-pattern snares, disappearing/reappearing bass line, nice vocals and oddly apportioned synths, "Elements Of Darkness" might best be described as an experiment in doing all the wrong things at all the wrong times and eventually emerging better...

Alexandros DjKevingr loves to do weird stuff while he plays and mix several sounds together. He is into tech/funky & deep house generally and cant say “no” to a very nice production even though he is not into the genre of that particular style. Unsurprisingly, "Terrorism In London" is a demanding journey through the dark side of DjKevingr's computer wizardry. It begins with the title track—a stormy session with an eerie vocal line—but the unnerving vibe in...

The "Romance En Cordoba" palpitates with a breakcore pace and monstrous build that begins brutally, but is then tightly wound until its forced release into a veil of torpid synths. Franzis-D is melting faces on a dance floor somewhere, and then it transforms and proceeds to lullaby you to another realm. A grittier, grimier side of Stanisha comes through with 2 versions one its brittle crackle and eerie vocal sample, the other one is certainly more of a headphone...

"Ray Of Light" initially sounds like some kind of lazy hippie drum circle, taking its sweet time to pick up the pace. Finally three minutes in, some whispers synths whoosh their way in, like a slightly looser, more organic, shows a lot of patience in its slow build (what comes later: a two-chord phrase.) "Unfinished Dream" reinterpretation gives the kick drum a punishing low-end boost and hints of melody are replaced by a full-throated synth that basically blots...
