Barcelona’s UNITE With Tomorrowland festival caught on fire

People were forced to evacuate Barcelona festival UNITE With Tomorrowland yesterday after a fire broke out at the main stage.

The right-hand side of the stage caught fire at around 10 PM while Armin Van Buuren’s headline set was being broadcast live from the flagship edition of Tomorrowland in Belgium. The exact cause is unconfirmed, though the organizers put it down to a “technical malfunction.” All 22,000 spectators were evacuated from Parc De Can Zam with no reported injuries. EDM stars Steve Aoki, Ingrosso and Afrojack were also on the bill.

Steve Aoki, best known for his chart-topping collaboration Just Hold On with One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, was due on stage at 2am local time, with the one-day festival expected to carry on until 3am.

The director general of civil protection in Catalunya tweeted that 22,143 people had been evacuated from the event, but no injuries had been reported so far.

It is not yet known what the cause of the fire was, although local media reported that it appeared to be related to the pyrotechnics, and it was quickly brought under control.

The line-up for the evening had also been set to include DJs Ingrosso and Afrojack.

July 29th 2017, the UNITE Barcelona stage caught fire due to a technical malfunction. Thanks to the professional intervention of the authorities all 22.000 visitors were evacuated safely and without reports of injuries. Authorities will follow up and continue the investigation with the local Spanish organizer of UNITE. No injuries were reported after a technical malfunction caused the main stage to catch ablaze at last night’s event.
