Beatport’s brand-new genre page Melodic House & Techno as a category

The DJ download store today added Melodic House & Techno as a category on Beatport’s brand-new genre page. Crediting the swelling popularity of a “heady, melodic, arpeggiator-heavy sound” on 4/4 dance floors around the world.

In addition to Solomun, Beatport name checks Dixon and Tale Of Us as flag-bearers of the sound. It’s a brooding vibe that’s filled up the store’s main House and Techno charts of late, demanding its own section. This melodic takeover has been led by producers like Andhim, Patrice Bäumel, Oliver Koletzki and Stephan Bodzin, with Innervisions, Stil Vor Talent, Diynamic, Afterlife and Kompakt among the defining labels.

The first Number 1 to kick off the new Melodic House & Techno section is ‘Prometheus’ from Ukranian duo Artbat, one of the most productive acts on Diynamic. The Top 10 includes Yotto (who hits Australia in April) with ‘Chemicals’ on Green, Adriatique’s ‘Voices From The Dawn’ and ‘Ray’ on Afterlife, Pional’s ‘Tempest’ on Permanent Vacation and Kölsch remixing Butch’s ‘Countach’ on Cocoon.

Beatport has been busy adding new genres to fine-tune the store since early 2017, starting with Leftfield House & Techno. Then came those seriously overdue bass genres, followed by Afro House to round the year. According to Beatport’s Label & Artist Relations Director, Jack Bridges, this new home for the melodic players will help take the Deep House section back to its OG sound.
