Alexandros DjKevingr - Terrorism In London

Written by Insomniafm Records on 10 March 2012.

Alexandros DjKevingr loves to do weird stuff while he plays and mix several sounds together. He is into tech/funky & deep house generally and cant say “no” to a very nice production even though he is not into the genre of that particular style.

IFMR056Unsurprisingly, "Terrorism In London" is a demanding journey through the dark side of DjKevingr's computer wizardry. It begins with the title track—a stormy session with an eerie vocal line—but the unnerving vibe in with the countless beats, percussion and vocals which emerge underneath a hypnotic set of high-frequency whistles.

Most of "300 Yogurts" weigh in at less than four minutes—continuing a shift away from the lengthy soundscapes. "Skg" employs cut even deeper, as evidenced in the deliciously crisp growls and vocal cascades whose sub-bass grinds away like a maniacal floor buffer. "RetroBody" stranger to ambient-oriented excursions at its most haunting when the beat drops away completely the former leads off with a dubwise bass riff that slowly disappears under a chorus of anxious, otherworldly moans.

Ruca Apple - Destruction Of The World
"Destruction Of The World", it's the kind of thing that should end the world, kick drums to displace the earth and blackened basslines to blot out the sun. Of course in reality it was never likely to end up as a techno pissing contest, and, true enough, this 3rd album of Ruca Apple was inspired by her visits to the Fabric, London than a drum machine apocalypse. Like rusted barbed wire, these tracks cut and scrape at the same time, sets the tone... Read more...

Tis and Zoe - Boy Dancing
"Boy Dancing" is the rather dramatic collaboration by "Tis and Zoe". They feel their emotions deeply, and they really want you to feel them too. Producing is tendencies to over-emote, but it was also an unexpected display of lucidity when it easily could have just been a waft of cheap perfume. Their collaboration with "Marko Zalazar", comes with the track called "Cursed Rhythm", the trio tackle cheesy elements head-on, as if taking on a... Read more...

IDEK - My World EP
"My World" it's a marvel of simplicity, thanks to its subtle atmospherics and a ceaseless array of ticking hi-hats and reverb drenched tech stabs. The original version made by "IDEK", glimmering chords give some contrast and it feels a little more conventional and less distinctive. Although only slightly faster than the others, "P-Ben" remix easily the most thrilling thing here, with beat patterns that sound like a locomotive rushing across a... Read more...

Neel V - French Connection
Neel V’s musical style reflects his eclectic culture influences from high-modernist electronic dance music distilled down to pure addiction. He’s combining eastern classical music with western underground dance music to create a new sound that would just be pure treat for the heart and mind. "French Connection" textured and tweaked as we'd expect, his original production nevertheless feel especially focused and restrained. Taking it's beat... Read more...

Roy Morgan & Zocaloo - Awww EP
Awww EP jumble of sounds, most prominently gospel moans and groans, swirl around an ever-present bassline that seems to be the only glue holding the disparate strands together. Drums start and stop hesitantly, a clap appears then disappears, and a hi-hat loop skirts around a snare, undecided whether to really commit. It's all from the duo Roy Morgan & Zocaloo in a intergalactic house ventures. "Zan Prevee" takes things in a less experimental... Read more...

Benny Dawson - Insurance EP
Just as you're reveling in the luxury of it all, Benny Dawson delivers reeling into triumphant string samples with "Insurance". The wistful is minced with delirious cheeriness, as downcast of "Firelight" and "Guliver" are thrown at a wall of drums and hyperactive synths. Just like his best music, it's hard to find your footing as you're being assaulted by wave after wave of viscous synth but it's harder than ever to care when each of those... Read more...

Alberto Caput - The Crane EP
Alberto Caput was an excellent exercise in dark disco, but the opening notes of "The Crane" marks something different and somewhat he expected. He combined with high-pitched synths, thrashed tambourines and its pitch serving to emphasise the groove. The remixes from Damon Marshall and khoss leans closer to what is to be expected from "The Crane" based on their previous efforts. Shadowy funk lurks just out of sight behind the upbeat intro, the... P-Ben - Cadburry EP
Cadburry EP it's a welcome further opening of the (genre) doors for a crew that had come to be perceived as functional techno purveyors. P-Ben comes with new release revealing some of his first forays into the experimental side of things. The opener, AngelieDj version might even properly earn the term "dreamy." It's hard to think of any other way to put it for a track that would fit neatly onto tough techno with just enough quirkiness to keep you... Read more...

John D & Zan Prevee - Red Moon EP
John D & Zan Prevee - Red Moon EP Sparsely rhythmic and thick with the duo of John D & Zan Prevee, both a consummate Greece insiders, comes with a new EP called "Red Moon" and provides a wonderfully lighthearted approach, who aren't afraid to have fun within a template of classic sounds. P-Ben - Wonder Girl EP
P-Ben - Wonder Girl EP P-Ben a young dj producer from the south of France... He started young to play in a lot of raves party and underground clubs. Wonder Girl EP sounds a little like a bassy brand of floor-filler. Abraham - Dreaming EP
The new EP from Abraham, is structured around the clatter of woody snares and a famous—or famous sounding—disco riff, "Dreaming" is seven minutes of locomotion. Kris Omen - Invisible Force EP
Kris Omen - Invisible Force EP There's something insidiously addictive about "Invisible Force"—its delirious percussive fever uncontrollably slips and slides around the stereo spectrum in a furious tantrum. What keeps it from getting lost in its own obnoxious frenzy, though, is ear for pop-calibre... Read more...

Erik Iker - Always Protected EP
The main thing that strikes you is how well the material on offer here has aged.   "Always Protected" is something more groovy and, even more importantly, lighthearted and fun. Erik Iker fully developed these intuitions on his two tracks at the height of the electroclash craze, yet those sexily sanguine songs are still as immediate and enduring with its panache and overall glam. "Sometimes" commanding display of an innate sense of melody and... Read more...

Orelse - Sun Above Your Eyes
"Sun Above Your Eyes" is a new EP from Orelse continues in that vein, where spare 4/4 frameworks are established early on and the main focus of each track is essentially about how the resulting gaps are filled. The version of Stanisha is aptly named for its modern lullaby overtones. If you have young... Read more...

Dj Duma & Nico Kala G - Elements Of Darkness
"Elements Of Darkness," a collaboration between Dj Duma & Nico Kala G, has something going for it atop crisp, snapping percussion, its sweeping strings and brightly-hued dabs of synth are intensely emotional. Peaceful Mind - Ray Of Light EP
"Ray Of Light" initially sounds like some kind of lazy hippie drum circle, taking its sweet time to pick up the pace. Finally three minutes in, some whispers synths whoosh their way in, like a slightly looser, more organic, shows a lot of patience in its slow build (what comes later: a two-chord phrase.) "Unfinished Dream" reinterpretation gives the kick drum a punishing low-end boost and hints of melody are replaced by a full-throated synth... Read more...

Zan Prevee - Revealing Senses
Zan Prevee is nothing if not prolific, started experimenting in music technology and on the production of electronic music, his own unique style began to be recognized on radio sets over the world. The results are less dense and easier to love than arguably any of his output thus far. John Ov3rblast... Read more...

Kaan Koray & Eray - Rise Of Darkness
"Rise Of Darkness" somewhere deep down below, rousing synths rise and rise, a man splutters out the odd mangled word and before you know it you'respinning round and round in some beguiling progressive house fusion. Boral Kibil - Paradox EP
"Paradox" apparently, is about Turkish producer explorer Boral Kibil who probably didn't foresee his life being told to a soundtrack of wobbling dubstep basslines, pulses of intergalactic melody and Boards of Turkey-style analogue synths. The EP it's also unusually abrasive, dominated by a buzzing throb. Clattering cymbals closely tail each surge of this gargantuan saw-like synth, which Boral Kibil barely bothers to whittle down with filters.... Read more...

Marcu Vershi - Tough EP
Despite his youth, Marcu Vershi is clearly well-versed in the history of progressive house sounds. It courses rich through the veins of his work. Here he gets nice and loose, with plenty of lively percussive action embedded amongst wavy, slo-mo house beats that lope like lazy teenagers on a humid summer's day. The original track "Tough" is vividly coloured, with plenty of darting glissando melodies.. Franzis-D remix is marbled with vinyl hiss... Read more...

As a dj Orelse has shared the decks with the best Greek djs and with foreign ones.. John D - Silent Winter
John D influences leads him to start entering the world of electronic music, within this loose association, however, the gentle ebbs and flows created as each piece gives way to the next render this "Silent Winter" far more than the sum of its parts. Similarly, its understated, acidic low-end isn't particularly impelling; it just bubbles on the spot... Read more...

Dj Coslow - Este O Amor EP
Dj Coslow seems like he's trying to warn us of something. It might be impossible to say what that thing is, but the way in which he says it is utterly captivating. Franzis-D - Folklore
Franzis-D aligns himself with producers like Synkro and Indigo, artists who make beatific bass music that chisels bits and pieces from other sounds into a beautiful but unclassifiable whole. Vocal samples, chirping synths, springy and swingy drums, all lathered in a heavy coat of reverb: Franzis-D's sound is not an unfamiliar one. But look closer and his structures are slightly off kilter: often his vocal samples seem like they're falling off... Read more...

Marcu Vershi - Joly
"Joly" is a stunning blend of baroque melodies, delicately placed arrangements and subtly pulsing electronics. A release that sacrificed the emotional tumult of Marcu Vershi for illustrative composition in an attempt to sonically map the... Read more...

Dj Duma - Lost In My Mind EP
The "Lost In My Mind" EP from Dj Duma succeeds by nailing the details, the cool mid-phrase shuffle shared by kick and clap, the lovely expressiveness of the bassline, the surprisingly economical arrangement. Franzis-D - Nicotine EP
Franzis-D is using a similar bass in his new EP called "Nicotine" timbre to those found in original mix it nonetheless moves forward a lot more cautiously. The original mix of Fyono does this best, showing he have the confidence to let the combination positively simmer. Brazza - Less is More
The title track is wrapped in a Burial-like ambience, in which crashes of thunder boom moodily in the distance. Though devoid of footsteps per se, there's a sense of cautious movement through cavernous space. Franzis-D - I Need Love EP
"I Need Love" EP is rudimentary party music with a tech house bent. In that context, the Franzis-D does exactly what he should. Frustratingly, it's little more than that. Damir & Dubmin - Dreaming
Damir & Dubmin have shown us they love progressive house, it's becoming clear that they don't just love the stuff but clearly feel they have a stake in advancing it. "Marcu Vershi" builds a shuffling house groove atop, the plush chords and dubbed-out voices are ripped straight from the nouveau deep house textbook, the "Resistance System" still manages to make it sound fresh. The EP sets the trend, beginning with a just-groovy-enough bassline and skittish hi-hats. It feels short on ideas, with the main hook little more than some ryhthmically chopped loops. Serdar Ermis - Metal String
While the presence of "Metal String" will likely pause fingers flicking through racks and scrolling through pages of new releases, the piqued interest will hopefully flow over to Serdar Ermis's stellar pair of the original mix. Wez Saunders - Shuckle Nuffling
A single electric cowbell ping with plenty of reverb gives the aural illusion that it's a dub track, though there's an understated drive in the hats that keeps the momentum on the right side of dopey. John Veis - 6 AM
Alternate sections and arpeggios flow upwards into a break that capitalises on the grandiosity with huge, bashing snare rolls, before flooring you on the drop. This might all be too much for some, but it distils and fortifies all the right bits in all the right ways. John Veis in "6 AM" shows a little puffs of smoke gently break into glowing swells and piano chords, upping the groove and the gravity just as gently later on. It's all carried... Read more...

Mena - Katana
The release is poised and uninterested in making a big flashy show of itself, plus some gorgeously melodic synths, in "Katana" by Mena and Fabio T. remix bumps up to a sort of percolator pace, making it a useful weapon in the noble fight of nudging an otherwise flat-lined set into its next phase. The way it drapes over its sometimes sauntering, sometimes clacking beat makes the whole production sound effortless too—the kind of house track that... Read more...

Ozerk Ozmen - Fair Enough
The original kicks off with a choppy, syncopated snare rhythm and a bassline that sounds very nice. A new piano loop, which sounds like a tension; incidental saxophone squawks nudge the track off of its harmonic axis as the hi-hat/snare pattern digs into a shuddering groove. There's an obvious '80s/'90s influence, which feels true to Ozerk Ozmen's own classicist bent, but it's been subtly turned on its ear stock tropes slip down an atonal rabbit... Read more...

Paul Martinez - Ocean Roaming EP
"Ocean Roaming" comes on from the start with lots of atmosphere: warm, woolly synths, space-making clavier, diaphanous vocals. It scans in every way as a reasonably agile take on deep house, but it's also absent a centralizing focus or force that would make it do anything but float away, with little left to linger in the end. The singing is too sweet for its own good, and little in the track beneath it grounds the understandably evanescent... Read more...

AquAdro - Broken Heart EP
Airhead drags the "Broken Heart" surface-noisy overlays over a trudging beat in a night-ride-home kind of way, with occasional splashes of vocals and piano to remind us of its origins, with groove settles into something both approachable and hard-driving, as deep kick drums push hard below understated synth blips and bubbling pads. Perhaps it's not as "tricky" to get as the introduction may have you believe: It's just that AquAdro work seems... Read more...

Alexander Anufriev - Sincerity EP
Easing us into proceedings is "Sincerity" a nicely crafted if perhaps a little too functional progressive-tech effort with an anything but run-of-the-mill remix courtesy of Franzis-D, who follows his own "less is more" advice with a stripped-back approach which allows the warm bass pulses of the original a little more time to breathe. It's beautifully restrained, Dj Coslow allowing the lively key stabs to only make a momentary appearance before... Read more...

Ruca Apple - Message from Shirley
Even before Ruca Apple was tall enough to reach the turntables, she was always passionate about music, inspire people as a ‘DJ’ with what many define as a “bold and delicate” sound that is always delivered with lovely looks and a charming killer smile. Emotionally, the title track works in reverse, with a fat, breezy arpeggio lightening the gloom halfway through. It's not especially dark before then, but loads of reverb and faint howling... Fabio T. - Insomnia
The latest from Fabio T. is an organic affair, one that swallows up myriad influences and spews out a heady mixture that's difficult to pinpoint genre-wise and easy to get lost in the original, Insomnia is a slippery dub techno track, and while the sub frequencies that toss and turn underneath are a nice enough foundation, the bored progression and floaty chords are impersonal and detachedly dull. A single electric cowbell ping with plenty of... Read more...

Tolga Diler & Semih Karakas - Judgement
Tolga Diler & Semih Karakas set-up includes drums, glockenspiel, rain stick, trombones and harp. Pretty much anything outside of synthesised sounds, in other words. Although their playing is either treated or cleverly cut-up, sampled and fed back to itself, the emphasis is on real instrumentation. Delicacy is the key here, and the sounds are allowed to breath independently thanks to a capacious backdrop sporadically illuminated by a mixture of... Read more...

Archie JD - Hypnotised
If Hypnotised like to tell us something about themselves, it’s probably that they’re interesting but deep fellows. And that’s exactly what they’ve delivered with a twisting, melodic house and insightful EP, skip and groove in a similar manner to one another, ironing out the wild bounciness of the original. Archie JD stutters the vocal, introduces a few neat fills and generally displays tight production. Abstract and piercing, the title... Read more...

Dzim - Black Factory
Dzim brings a space wasteland of progressive and drowned house over a lazy beat that chimes dusted chords set astride an almost-blackness. The pads get more melodic, more preclusive of escape as they come to life in the more polished Black Factory. It's therein that Dzim pulls long granulated drone across the void while a minimal beat diffuses collapse. The original tells us that parts of Black Factory will work in headphones, and that parts... Fabio T. - Is out of Control
Italian producer Fabio T. strips things back to the very barest of essentials to provide an single that to your ears at least is the very essence of the deeper pastures of the 4/4 beat. His approach to Is Out Of Control is methodical, taking away all the non-essential elements and leaving a skeletal branch; raw, exposed and entirely lovely. With its muted chords and thunderously deep bass, it's an emotionally charged piece, adding its own bleak... Read more...

Fanyo - White to fusion
Fanyo is not concerned with blowing your mind. He's more concerned with doing what he does best, doing what he only knows how, DJ and producer that has had his head professionally buried in house music for the best part of a decade. One of the standout mellow tunes is the opening "White to fusion" whose bouncing, is a strong mood-setter. The neat segue into "Trouble in my head" underscores the album's strong sense of cohesiveness—it's less... Read more...

Azur Odobasic - Pay Attention
At least some of that nostalgic weight comes from the claustrophobically matter-of-fact vocal that winds its weary way along the path laid out by the deeply insistent drum track. Azur Odobasic gallops on a steady, slightly syncopated beat, making use of exaggerated sound effects that dip, tug and snap back, each bar tipping over into an extended drum fill whose gleeful novelty never quite wears off. On the other part Fyono'sremix is all about... Read more...

Alexander Anufriev - Word is Silver, Silence is Gold EP
Alexander Anufriev delighting the audience with music and of course handing her his mood, many years of his career, managed to play at various parties of his native city, which has gained broad experience and brought it to fruition. The whole thing has an intensely circular progression, the swollen-bottom end contrasting with the resonant gunmetal of the slicing drum samples. If "Absorption" almost manages to escape the enwombing inertia that so... Franzis-D - Mediterranean EP
In an era where consistent sonic trademarking often gets confused for a creative stall—where the demand for "ingenuity" often outstrips that for sheer persistence and quality—few imprints have been as diligent and attentive in defining their crystalline brand of house music. That said, original mix, "Mediterranean," is ornamented with an unexpected yet subtle acidic bass line—the kind of welcomed attention to detail you also find on "Blue... Read more...

Serdar Ors - I Miss You Michael Jackson
Yet, while no one would have the gall to claim that the simply-titled Michael scales the dizzy heights of Off The Wall or Thriller, it nonetheless presents itself as a unified piece of work and testament to the man’s continued energy and inspiration. There is a danger, however, of its musical merits being overlooked because of the various unanswered questions that surround its completion. The first track opens with Serdar Ors, ‘I Miss You... Fyono - Orient
The tunes are structured excellently and flow professionally. Sections build, then drop down into some other idea before becoming overbearing, with less volume but no loss in momentumOn "Orient" Fyono returns to the gritty industrial soundscape that was showcased on last year's venture for 3024. A slowly building intro gives way to a flurry of clanging percussion, coupled with a string sample that will have the track sitting comfortably if... Read more...
