Marco V - Interview
Hey Marco, how’s life treating you at the moment?
Great, just preparing my bags for a small US tour
For those who don’t know, what type of music do you play and produce, and how would you describe your music?
Music that goes from progressive to Techno’ish, as long as it’s energetic and uplifting.
You return to this summers South West Four festival, what makes you keep coming back?
A great festival in the middle of London, it’s easy to come back ;-)
You’re playing back-to-back with Sander this year, how did this idea come about and have you done back to back before?
We like each others sound and it fits perfectly together as well. We did a small b2b set at our Australia tour last year and said lets do this at a festival someday.
Any fond memories from previous South West Fours?
I’ve played at the first one and didn’t know what to expect but it was great.
What musical environment did you grow up in, and when did your break in the industry come about?
When I was young everyone was into hip hop. Public Enemy etc.
And I still like hip hop a lot. My breakthrough was around 2000 when I started to play the so called tech-trance sound.
When did you first realise you had made it as a DJ or a producer, what one memory do you have that made you think ‘yes I have made it’?
Never thought yes I made it, but when I was playing on the main stage of the Innercity festival (NL) for 20.000 people, peak time and mixing the event CD live on stage. I thought this is going into the right direction.
Are there any DJs/Producers at the moment that are really hitting the club scene hard, and are really standing out?
There are a lot of new Dutch house talents that could have a big music future.
Propaganda Part II where did you draw inspiration from when producing that album?
That’s a collection of ideas that I put into a folder for two years. A lot of small melodies, vocals etc. When the time was there to produce the album I choose the one I liked the most and finished them for the Propaganda albums.
Any new projects you’re currently working on in the studio at the moment that you want to talk about?
I am going to start a second record label besides In Charge and currently working into the studio for the first 2 releases.
It has been said that your music had a huge change in style, slowing the tempo a lot more, what brought about the change?
I felt the beats and bass-lines became more into a swing that I like if I slowed the tempo. That was mainly the reason and also the start of a the change. If you produce at a slower tempo you come up with different ideas.
Do you foresee yourself DJ’ing until you retire… If not what future career paths could be on the horizon?
This is what I do and like the most so I have to say yes, I will do this until forever….
Having two-world class DJs behind the decks at the same time is very exciting, what can we expect you both to bring to the party?
We both like energy so two of us will be even more energy I guess.
You’ve been playing at The Gallery for many years, what does the club mean to you?
First of all it was the first club who booked me in England so that was very special for me. And still playing at the Gallery night is special, always a great vibe year after year.
And for the future, what can we expect from Marco V?
Music music and some more music!!
