Lovebox 2010 Festival - London
As we approach its seventh year, Lovebox is gearing up for their biggest and most diverse festival yet. The brain child of Groove Armada, the festival has exploded since their humble beginnings on Clapham Common in 2003. With a lineup and festival site now trebled from its original size, the annual bash takes place on London's oldest public park, Victoria Park. Their home since 2005, the fact that the space neighbours London's most infamously creative and socially diverse areas including Hackney, Bethnal Green and Bow seems fitting considering the wealth of choice on offer for music fans at this much loved festival. In a clear, distinct and somewhat unashamedly (and why should it be?) attempt to bring a slice of Glastonbury to central London every year; we see a rich mix of bands, DJs, genres and styles. With another expected 50,000 visitors again this year, 2010's three day event looks set to be a landmark year the Lovebox crew.
Friday takes on more of an urban feel than the following days. Headlined by the Brit Award winning Dizzee Rascal, the pick of the rest come from Chase & Status, The Crookers, Brodinski, Doorly, Riva Starr, Todd Edwards and Toddla T. The NYC Downlow stage will see performances from Zinc & Dynamite MC, Mistajam Radio, Joy Orbison and MJ Cole whilst The Noisettes and Ellie Goulding join Dizzee on the main stage.
Saturday spans the entire spectrum of performers that makes Lovebox the melting pot of ideas and creativity that it is. From the hip-hop sounds of Grandmaster Flash, Jazzie B and The Nextmen in the Rizla Arena to the underground house and techno of Henrik Schwarz, Dixon, Booka Shade and Jesse Rose in aptly named Relentless Energy Drink Stage and onto the mighty Roxy Music and Mark Ronson on the main stage. Tim Westwood, Shy FX, Empire of the Sun, Paloma Faith and Norman Jay all cap off the celebration of music on Saturday.
This year also sees the exciting launch of Lovebox's all-new Sunday, which blends some of the coolest music, emergent art, cutting edge fashion and more to create an all-inclusive polysexual party unlike any other. Performing on the main stage will be the dynamic Grace Jones who will also share the stage with Hot Chip, Peaches and Hercules & Love Affair. Elsewhere, some of London's most acclaimed underground electronic nights will be hosting their own arenas. Kubicle, famed for their ex-public toilet debauchery will be partying hard with Craig Richards, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Lee Curtiss and Clive Henry whilst Fabric's Sunday night bash Wet Yourself will also be hosting in addition to Disco Bloodbath, Horse Meat Disco and Trailer Trash. New Young Pony Club and a live show from Holy Ghost will be kicking off on the Gaymers stage whilst the Rizla Arena will see performances from Mr Fingers and Derrick Carter amongst others.
With ten stages across the site every day, Lovebox 2010 has been able to programme across a vast array of styles and genres whilst digging deeper to bring the most amazing rising talent alongside the best of the established acts to a central London festival. One long, big, three day event to celebrate music as a whole, Lovebox looks set to raise the bar for London's summer events once more.
