Come Together Thursdays at Space Ibiza - Line-ups Updated
Festivals. The golden damsel courting Ibiza since Ibiza Rocks began making its immoral dent into the hallowed territory of Balearic dance music and clubbing in 2005. The word "Sacrilege!" could be heard whispering from bitchy purists lips and sneers were displayed over how a stage in a San An hotel could really replicate the feeling of a good old field, mud-bath and camp-site. Evidenced by the sell-out shows and glowing reports of the Rocks throughout 2009, it looks like the purists were wrong.
On the other side of the island a weekly night "Come Together" starting at Space from July 8th through September 9th has ambitious plans to continue cultivating the seed sown by IR and create the festival atmosphere in Playa D'en Bossa. London's Safehouse Management, the team that brought Carl Cox's Revolution to Space for the last eight years are behind the music policy and have pulled Mauro Picotto's "Meganite" into the line-up. "Meganite" which was replaced by "Warung" in Privilege was part of fall-out that also saw Privilege owner José María Etxaniz grind his chopping axe against "Monza". Martin Ferrer, owner of Amnesia then came to the rescue of "Monza" with an offer to run a concept at La Cova Santa, the small club/restaurant he also owns that was supposed to commence at the beginning of the season. However, due to licensing problems created by the laws in San Jordi, La Cova Santa management cited that they did not want to take "risks'' which would interfere with the venue successfully getting its licence and dropped the project.
Old wounds aside both "Monza" and "Meganite" will fit into a colourful tapestry of music at "Come Together" alongside other promoters such as Liverpool's "Chibuku" who will host a one off room and BBC Radio 1 who take over the main stage on August 5th.
Acting as a melting pot of styles and a platform that presents both old and new for clubbers open minded in their take on dance music, a variety of genres will clash insanely against the walls of Space this summer. DJs such as Magda, Adam Beyer, Annie Mac, Riva Starr, Mathias Kaden, Erol Alkan, Skream, Mark Knight and Tobi Neuman are lined up to play and the venue will play host to a number of live acts including Leftfield, playing Ibiza after a 10 year absence, Faithless, Booka Shade, Vitalic, UK chart topping no. 1 hero Tinie Tempah, Salt n Pepa, Pendulum, Friendly Fires and Kelis who returns after a 4 year break in which she became a mother. To compliment the night Mauro Picotto will also be running a remix competition for producers with the winning track released on Alchemy.
"Come Together" is making a statement of what electronic music is now and the approach to bring the festival to the club will also encompass the very best of new technologies emerging in sound, vision and light.
