Peaceful Mind & Crystal Drop - Universal Mind
Peaceful Mind is a dedicated progressive lover, but isn’t imprisoned by a single genre, saying “What makes progressive work so well is that it doesn’t stick to one style, and can incorporate electro, minimal, whatever it likes.” Although has clearly reached a celebrity status, it¹s his generous personality, his love for his peers and of course his completely candid humour that has enabled him to maintain such a likeable high profile in the often-fickle world of club culture. The definition of Crystal Drop is a water absorbent polymer that is translucent, odourless, bio-degradable, 100% non-toxic, re-usable and environmentally friendly, his sounds are underlined by a field recording that grows noticeably, subtly shifting from fuzzy house to a collation of squeaking breaks, sirens, horns and voices..
"Universal Mind" EP begins with tremors of piano and zither, before progressive enters with a few elongated wordless groans. The duo development into chattering laughter and higher cooing opens a more relaxed passage, alternating with forceful vocals over robust synthesizer drone. It's the aural equivalent of tensing every muscle in your body and then letting them all go. "Universal Oneness" false-starts on a sluggish motorik rhythm and a serrated bass drone, dissolving into a watery, bell-laden movement for the remainder.
Finally, "Lonesome" buffs up the synth drone to complement its pervasive chants, channeling the previous tracks' instrumentation for a guttural, cathartic final movement.
The record is composed with a sense of freedom and fluidity that feels out-of-time, otherworldly and almost ancient an intense accomplishment for both parties.
