Quaver - Banger (The Remixes)
After the Original version of Banger was well received by DJs and fans alike, Big Alliance Recrds decided to invite a very talented group of producers to remix the tune and it has become to be one of the best packages for Electro House lovers!Alex Kidd (USA) needs no introduction, his productions have always received the most outstanding support and been featured on some of the most prestigious labels in Dance Music, this remix solidifies his versatility to adjust to different styles while making it a dance floor destroyer. DJ Maxsie and Alex Speaker are an uprising duo from Russia who are quickly making a name for themselves with their...

Rondenion - Beginning of the Ring
When it comes to house music, just how slow can you go? That's a question that Tokyo-based deep house producer Hirofumi Goto is toying with on the title track of his latest 12-inch, which crawls along at a sedate 86 BPM. You might think that this is a little slow to be a dance floor cut, but "Beginning of the Ring"'s sturdy kick and probing bass tone that appears every couple of bars give it a certain punch that makes up for its lack of pace. Looped strings and a sulty, submerged female vocal only add to its hypnotic head-nodding vibe, making it suitable for both a relaxed warm-up and the more strung-out early morning sets. While it might be...

Superisk - Find Your Way
Bristol's Punch Drunk records is a label that tends to deal in extremes; on the one hand, there's the reduced time capsules of label-head Peverelist and dusty dubs from names like Pinch and Gatekeeper, and on the other hand there's the exaggerated melodies from producers like Guido and Gemmy. The label's newest signing, newcomer Superisk, is a bit of an odd fit. His debut "Find Your Way" leans toward the latter category, but is endowed with a lifelike realism not usually seen on Punch Drunk. If it's not the top-heavy lurch of the mangled synth that gets to you, it'll be the tumbling harp sample; to be glib, Superisk's palette of sounds is...

Pinch - The Boxer
What does dubstep mean to you? Chances are that it's not the dubbed-out meditations of producers like Mala, Loefah and Bristol's first dubstep ambassador, Rob Ellis (AKA DJ Pinch). No, your answer is more likely to be something that leans towards the midrange-obsessed womp-womp-womp tear-out rave-ups, or something infused with techno, garage or house. The old guard is still kicking, though, and Pinch's first release of 2010—a long-awaited dubplate—is the kind of track that betters the new guys at their own game. "The Boxer" almost sounds like the culmination of a fiercely independent and inspiring career. The mix of tribalisms,...

Arkist & Komonazmuk - Outbreak
It seems like drum & bass's tendency for frequent and indiscriminate collaboration is infecting dubstep, as innumerable combinations of producers work on releases that fail to set themselves apart. Attribute it to the city's junglist past if you must, but Bristol especially seems fertile ground for dual-headed tracks. It becomes problematic when it's not clear who is contributing what—an issue amplified when it involves newcomers who are still honing their sound. Bristolian upstart Arkist's debut release comes on the profoundly weird If Symptoms Persist label, complete (predictably?) with a collaboration with Komonazmuk, a producer...

Skudge - Remixes Part 1
While the recently released third 12-inch from Skudge Records continues the Swedish duo's exploration of the intersection of techno and house to lesser effect than on previous installments, the limited remix 12-inch released last month showcases exactly how malleable their work can be. Dutch producer Aardvarck takes "Convolution" and twists what was already an excellent tune into a certified banger. The voice at the back gets mangled early and often beneath heavy breakbeat techno. It's mind-warping stuff, leaning heavily on its stuffed-to-the-brim sound design before unleashing a lovely synth progression to send you over the top. If Autechre...

Sasha - Dance Department Podcast 257
Sasha Sasha's first big break came when he was offered a residency at Stokes legendary club Shelly¹s. When all the other DJ's were playing US House, Sasha's style was much more uplifting, and he encapsulated clubbers with his mixture of piano led Italian House whilst playing acapella tracks over the top. This combination alongside a wide variety of anthems kept dancefloors full and elevated Sasha to hero status. Shelly¹s was the launch pad for the residency at Renaissance, where Sasha created his niche and helped forge a new style in UK house music. At Renaissance two major things happened; Sasha mixed the first ever UK DJ mix...

John Digweed & Layo & Bushwacka! - Transitions - 03.09.2010
John Digweed The beauty of what he does lies in just how different he really is from his contemporaries. From his early beginnings in Hastings, England at the age of 15 in the blossoming scene of acid house to the apex of the international dj'ing world, he has created and maintained a level of integrity that is the benchmark for both dj’s and producers globally. In fact, he has reached the very top of his profession, being voted #1 in a voter's poll by DJ magazine in 2001. After countless productions for major labels, dance ensembles and electro rock bands, which earned him many awards and praises, Guy was ready for a major hit. The single has surpassed the 5-digit mark in sales and continues to shift by the truckload, and to appear on numerous compilations. While touring with his live show, Guy was busy working on two other projects, which...
Spend 'A Night With Michael Mayer, Loco Dice, Ellen Allien & more PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 14 March 2010 08:14

Just as it seems London's club scene is selling out to the commercial market and the police relentlessly fight to close down some of the big smoke's best spots like Plastic People, ex T Bar master-promoter Derren Smart and Rob Star, owner of Bethnal Green's Star and Mulletover promoter, bring you a host of big name DJs playing a series of intimate gigs at an achingly cool new location. About time too.

After finding an amazing venue that was once a leather factory, the concept ‘A Night With...' was born. All about stripping back to basics to create a special occasion for those in attendance, the plans represent a new direction for Smart and kick off at this secret location on the 6th March. Kompakt's head honcho Michael Mayer steps in as the first of ten specially selected international DJs to spin the sound of their own ‘musical journey' - for a solid eight hours and to a crowd of no more than 350 people.

The inspiration? "We wanted to create a party where the focus was on the music and people getting locked in to the sound on the dance floor with everyone in one room" says Star. And that's exactly what the boys, who joined forces promoting some of T Bar's most successful parties including Ditched Disco and Loco Dice nights, have planned.

Michael MeyerOver the course of the next few months, expect to find some of the world's most prolific names on the bill, each given one whole uninterrupted evening on the decks including Tobi Neumann, Steve Bug, Anja Schneider, Magda, Heartthrob, Ellen Allien and of course, Loco Dice.

I feel honored to play the first set. When Derren sent over the request I was instantly ready to sacrifice a free weekend. I totally trust his abilities to set up fun parties and I'm totally loving all-nighters...
Michael Mayer
With some of Smart and Star's personal favourites and high points from their promoting experience confirmed, there's plenty to get excited about, making it near impossible to choose a just one highlight. Many a clubber is likely to share Smart's perspective; "I'm looking forward to ten amazing nights!" Without a doubt each one is guaranteed to sell out in advance.

As if that wasn't enough, it seems there really is no stopping these boys who have their hands full with a bounty of other projects. Star is also working on the forthcoming Mulletover's sixth birthday bash, and with more projects on the way from Smart in the form L.E.D, a three day inner city music festival in April 2011, plus regular Shoplifter events at T Bar (a sideline venture in the name of disco with Craig Richards) these forward-thinking lads are hell bent on injecting the much-needed life back into London's club scene and beyond. Shoplifter is at T Bar the third Sunday and at Horse & Groom the first Friday of every month.
