Avicii’s death is not being treated as criminal suspicious

Following the news of Swedish DJ Avicii’s sudden death aged 28 in Oman on Friday 20th April, thousands of fans gathered in Stockholm’s Sergels Torg plaza for a memorial.

In videos shared online from the afternoon of Saturday 21st April, fans of the DJ – real name Tim Bergling –  are seen dancing to his music in the street. You can watch the footage below.

Avicii was found dead in his hotel room in Muscat, Oman on Friday. Following two autopsies, authorities have ruled out any “criminal suspicion” in connection to his sudden, tragic death. As reported in The Guardian, police have stated that, following two autopsies, there is no evidence of foul play in relation to the DJ’s death aged 28. Further details surrounding the cause of death are expected to be revealed later this week.

Since news broke, respects have been paid across the global dance music community for an artist who had been open in the past about his struggles with anxiety and burnout as a result of fame and the high pressure nature of the job. He had previously spoken candidly about his battle with alcoholism.

It has been confirmed that Avicii’s body will be flown back to Sweden this week. In a statement issued by one of his representatives, his family – who have arrived in Oman – have requested that the international community, “please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given”.

Avicii had ranked at No. 28 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll last year. His tell-all biopic, True Stories, hit Netflix in 2017.
