Avicii is back with a new EP

“I will never stop making music,” Tim Bergling, aka Avicii, tweeted overnight. The EDM hitmaker has backed up that promise too, with his destined-to-be-misspelled new EP, AVĪCI.

The five-track EP is the Swede’s first release since announcing his retirement from touring back in March 2016. “Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it,” Bergling writes on his website. “But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.”

AVĪCI is the result of that reacquaintance with the studio, featuring collaborations with Rita Ora and AlunaGeorge, plus Canadian rock vocalist Billy Raffoul, Stockholm-based pop duo Vargas & Lagola and Swedish singer-songwriter Sandro Cavazza. Bergling also rounds out the EP with a bonus remix of Cavazza’s single ‘So Much Better’.

The EP announcement may be a welcome curveball for fans, but they probably won’t be surprised by the sound. AVĪCI continues in the pop-dance crossover vein of Bergling’s 2015 album, Stories, with ample acoustic twang alongside the squeaky-clean electronic production. Expect to hear these Americana-via-Sweden productions put through the remix machine before they hit EDM main stages.

Take a listen to the five new tracks from AVĪCI below.
