Dani Casarano & Felipe Valenzuela - La Tulipe EP on Cadenza
Following on from recent success from the likes of Frivolous and Massi DL, Luciano's Cadenza continue to fly the flag for high quality electronic music here with Swiss/Chilean duo Dani Casarano and Felipe Valenzuela's debut release on the label.
Fresh from their own output on Berlin's Fumakilla label, the pairs 'La Tulipe' EP is another recent Cadenza offering to savour.
Nearly 10 minutes in length, the title track is a reminder that deep house needn't necessarily equate to monotonous repetitive drivel. Unpretentious, fresh and undoubtedly vibrant in sound, there's still a contemporary feel to 'La Tulipe', as subtle Latin vocals are sprayed over soft drums, jazz samples and a sparkling piano solo.
B side 'Chance' is a more groove orientated track, whereby the bass line is cranked up a notch to cater towards the dance floor. An example of the recent trend towards energy laced deep house music, 'Chance' is manic enough to move the crowd, yet still maintains a distinct sounding underground house edge.
In essence, its a shrewdly crafted piano led track which brilliantly straddles the genre boundaries. What may sound effortless to the untrained ear is doubtless an exercise in careful control, with every aspect of the track, be it its filters, drums and melody all obviously meticulously adhered to.
'Pantro' wraps up the 'La Tulipe' EP. With drums a constant throughout, the track is the most obviously dancefloor oriented of the three, with a chunky house groove complimented by an occasional laughing vocal.
Not quite as monumental as other Cadenza fair, the 'La Tulipe' EP is however, a strong release in it's own right, and an impressive debut from a pair who seemingly have plenty to offer.
