Biography

Ben Hysa, also known as Protek Bastard, was born and raised in a small seaside city in Montenegro called Ulcinj. He was never a musician, didn't play any instruments or attended any music course or academy but his first touch with electronic music was when he first heard a compilation from a NYC well known club Sound Factory back in 1999, and that’s when he was hooked.

After that he started exploring into these genres like Hard House, Euro House and Tribal Techno. His favorite artists by that time were Jonathan Peters, Johnny Vicious, and Warp Brothers and of course the experimental band, The Prodigy. By the age of fifteen he was curious and very interested in setting up dj systems such as connecting turntables, cd players, mixers, and amplifiers together and learning new options on different dj softwares. He learned a lot on that field from his hometown friends that were doing school parties and such by that time. Later on, as music styles concerned, Ben concentrates more on European kind of style (UK & Germany) such as Electro House & Techno and on artists such as Dj Antoine, Didier Sinclair, John Digweed and many more. In addition to that, he falls in love with the voice of a British vocalist and dj called Abigail Bailey. Being influenced by The Prodigy & Dj Antoine he came up with a project name VoodooHouseJunkie which he used for a period of time.

At the age of nineteen he moves to Serbia, enrolls into a college and decides to get away a little bit from mainstream sounds. In college he meets an electronic music fellow called Sanya, nowadays well known as Joe Charlie, and together they start exploring and participating parties with kind of more underground styles such as Minimal Techno & Progressive. By that time he gets his own dj gear and starts experimenting with those styles and starts recording various sets. After exploring and experimenting he finally finds out what kind of sounds suite most to him and gets hooked on Techno & Progressive House. And that’s how he comes up with a new project name ProTek Bastard.

Nowadays, Ben does a lot of guest mixes and shows for various radio stations and plays in local clubs every now and then. On what he’s most concentrating these days, is a Progressive sound, Melodic, Deep & Dark. More of an east European kind of Progressive House that is produced by different artists from Turkey, Greece etc…
